Something Quick to Share

Just a quick song (don't pay attention to the video) from what I'm listening to lately. Song is great for "outdoorsy" things I've been doing, or planning, lately.

Enjoy

Quick Update: Going into March Madness

It is March Madness time and I am going into my bracketology work as clueless as ever. My first stab gave me Ohio St. over Wisconsin in the final. Not sure what that is all about. I am working on my next go around right now; hopefully something more interesting will work its way into my bracket.

Until later,

Climbing as a Member

I'm back and it hasn't been more than a few days; must be a first on this blog in quite a while, if ever.

Today I officially joined my first climbing gym and am totally stoked about it. I did some top roping with two co-workers who have been bugging me to come out for a while now. Being belayed without having to reciprocate was great, even though I definitely need to get in some reimbursement later.

My introduction to climbing came a few months back when one of my friends from college was just getting back into it after a long 5 year break. My first day was devoted to a few V0's, blisters on each finger, and "skin too small" disease. As with many sports I try for the first time, I was hooked! I got back out to the gym with my friend a few weeks later and had another blast, surviving a little longer. Ever since I have been managing to get out every other weekend or so.

Going outside to Castle Rock for some bouldering really sealed up my desire to get more into climbing. It was so cool being out in the forest early in the morning, hiking in sweats up to the boulders. The few routes I could finish were so much fun, and more rewarding then anything I had done in the gym

The point which really got me hooked was sending a semi-highball in the Magoos. Being up eight to ten feet in an uncontrolled environment was heart pumping. I knew too well the small crash pad we had was going to be too difficult to hit from so far up, so there was no place to go but up. One big blind jug and a beached whale later and I was at the top, trying to play it cool even though my adrenaline was through the roof.

Cliche or not, the rest is history. Actually, its only been two weeks since going to Castle Rock, and I've only  been climbing twice since then; I guess there really isn't any history then, at least not yet. Today it did help me connect with some co-workers and take a much needed break from work.

Hopefully climbing will become a good physical hobbie for me since biking has become somewhat of a disappointment. The gym I joined should leave me with no excuses, it is on my way to work and has showers with towels. Also,  if I don't feel like climbing I can still utilize the strength area.

Until next time,
TJ

To Blog or Not To Blog, that is the Question

Quick Aside: I just noticed one of the greatest literary quotes of all time contains the word "that"; the same word some college professor taught me to always and unrelentingly hate with a passion.

Yesterday I read one of my friends latest "getting back into blogging" blog post and I started thinking: "Maybe I should get back into blogging?".

I thought and thought (or not) and finally I got bored this evening and decided "what the hell", lets go type some random junk into my computer and send it out to the world wide web where billions have access to it, but no one will read it.

So there it is. My evening is a little less boring; I feel a little less proud of myself; and there is the all too familiar feeling of hope that (sorry professor) this may turn into something bigger and longer lasting. On the same note: mine as well screw around with Blogger's new templates before diving deeper into The Valley of the Moon.

Goodbye for now,
TJ
